Sean is has a strong reputation behind the camera, having directed three short films for which he is already receiving a great deal of industry attention. His first, entitled On My Honor, was a 16-minute 35mm short based on his own idea about the exchange between an American and a Vietnamese soldier. Caught in a trap, they must decide whether to work together. They are forced to consider each other's humanity as they fight for survival. In 1995, Sean was nominated for the Academy AwardŽ for best live action short, for Kangaroo Court, which he directed and co-produced with his wife, Christine. Sean's father, John Astin, was nominated in the same category in 1969 for his original short, Prelude.

Sean's new short film The Long and Short of It screened at Sundance 2003.

Sean has optioned the rights and intends to direct a major motion picture based on Erik Larson's best-selling non-fiction book Isaac's Storm.

A Directors Guild of America member, Sean has also directed episodes of the HBO anthology series Perversions of Science, Nickelodeon's 100 Good Deeds for Eddie McDowd and most recently Angel for The WB and Jeremiah for MGM.

Cut the guy some slack, he is talented, intelligent and has a mind of his own. This isn't a case of riding coat tails, he's earned it. As a Fantastic Four fan, I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with the project.
