The process of creating and the commerical pressures of media ownership will occasionally force the creators to end a series in a quick fashion and... under the gun to give the series a good send-off... they'll write an ending to the characters as the premise maintained all along instead of giving them a gauzy drawn-out happy-endings-all-around goodbyes.

Have you seen the Star Trek movies lately?

Have you... Jesus, did you happen to notice what happened to that other Star series?

Wasn't the poignancy of "Goodbye" spelled out in rocks somewhat fucked by seeing that half the characters ran a wacky Boston hospital a year later in AfterMash?

Do you want to find out that Saint Elegis WASN'T a little disabled kid staring into a snowglobe, that Howie Mandel and Denzel Washington hallucinated that shit on some demerol they stole from the pharmacy?

Did you want Jerry and Elaine to get married and Kramer dies of cancer but Elaine's got a little Seinfeld in the oven and maybe they're gonna name him Cosmo?

Do you want the Simpsons to end on fucking Lisa leaving on a bus for college, Smithers takes over the plant and makes it a decent place to live, blah blah blah?

Sometimes the end is the end. Fucking... I'M a science-fiction fan and *I* think the internet has given us way the fuck too much voice.

Mike
