A certain quantity, but it's taken and mixed through your own interpretation and specifically ignores other facts.

Bellasario wrote the ending. He did so under duress, yes. You don't have to like it, but you do have to accept that that text was not written by Universal. They would have no reason to do that, because it was in no way cost-effective to eliminate the question of whether he'd return home or not; that meant spin-offs were less likely and that people were less likely to enjoy that episode.

You don't like the ending, but don't blame the studio, because if the studio *had* forced an ending, it would've been a happy ending, because those are the endings that studios force on things, but you would've liked it more that way. (Which is fine, I'm not criticizing your preference, just your mistake.)
