If I recall correctly, either Miramax or one of the Weinstein brothers did donate $100,000 to the Matthew Shepherd Foundation (which, bear in mind, is not affiliated with GLAAD), or at least promised to do so. It seems to me that GLAAD contacted Miramax first. They then called Kevin, let him know that they weren't happy, that Miramax was donating to the MSF, Kevin said he would too, asked how much Miramax was giving, GLAAD said $100,000, Kevin cringed, and I don't remember who suggested $10,000 instead.
