: Look at how music CDs are priced. It costs maybe $2 max to burn and package a CD, yet the prices have gone up to about $17 average retail. I know some of that is ad cost, etc. But $17?

I have no doubts that the prices will go up, since DVD is well on its way to become the dominant movie medium for home watching. I wonder how the effect of re-writable DVD's will affect the market? As far as the CD thing, I can't see how places like Sam Goody and the Wall charge 17.99 for a CD on SALE!!?? and yet I go to a huge chain like best buy and they have the same cd for 11.99, and better yet, DVD's on sale for 12.99 ( I got Heat and Shawshank Redemption for 12 each) also, the internet always seems to have the lowest prices (for now), I just don't want some greedy mofo jacking up the price.
