: : Look at how music CDs are priced. It costs maybe $2 max to burn and package a CD, yet the prices have gone up to about $17 average retail. I know some of that is ad cost, etc. But $17?

: I have no doubts that the prices will go up, since DVD is well on its way to become the dominant movie medium for home watching. I wonder how the effect of re-writable DVD's will affect the market? As far as the CD thing, I can't see how places like Sam Goody and the Wall charge 17.99 for a CD on SALE!!?? and yet I go to a huge chain like best buy and they have the same cd for 11.99, and better yet, DVD's on sale for 12.99 ( I got Heat and Shawshank Redemption for 12 each) also, the internet always seems to have the lowest prices (for now), I just don't want some greedy mofo jacking up the price.

Hell, even Tower and Media Play jacked their prices up last year. Guess I won't be shopping there anymore. Maybe I'll take your advice and start roaming the net for CDs.

I think you are on to something with recordable DVDs. The only thing that prevents DVDs from actually replacing videotape altogether is the fact you can't record your favorite shows on them. Enjoy the lower DVD prices while you can, I guess. If VHS goes the way of Beta, DVD prices will go right back up.
