i have two children, and although thoughts of their mortality do often enter into my head, you have to banish them and just enjoy what you have, or you'll be paralyzed with fear.
when my first daughter was born, my first thought was not 'what ever will i do if she is taken from me?' but a much more american and paternal 'i will kill anyone who tries to harm you.' when my second daughter was born i thought to myself 'wtf? why arent you a boy?'
