I do know Satanism (at least, the Anton LeVay/Church of Satan faction) is all about studying and manipulating the material world, so perhaps that's what it's all about?

Seriously, I've never seen much of a conflict between religion and science, if you bear in mind that both are metaphorical systems used to describe processes beyond our full understanding.

I imagine it's more difficult if you take either your religion and/or your science more literally than I do.
