Let's face it - Kevin Smith may be a one trick pony.

"Clerks" was fantastic for a start-up independent picture. "Mallrats" looked like "Say, Clerks was about losers hanging around a Quick Stop. How about a movie about losers hanging around Monmouth Mall?" Hence, you have "Mallrats" in a nutshell. A not-brilliant rehashing of Clerks.

"Chasing Amy" had its moments, but Kevin Smith is now into "shocking the straights." Is the coversation between Afleck and Adams in the park really interesting in any way, shape or form? Are the constant discussions about homosexuality, group sex and related "shock items" necessary? Answer: Kevin Smith realized that his only chance for success is shocking 14-18 year olds.

"Dogma" had its moments as well. Once again, the constant use of f**k by Jason Mewes is detracting from an otherwise interesting movie. Again, "shock" is all Kevin Smith can do anymore.

"Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" is both brilliant and ridiculously written and edited. How about a play-by-play?

Intro (the beginning of Jay and Silent Bob) - hillarious (until Kevin reaches into the shock bag for the arrest - not funny, just poor art). Yes, Jason is saying f**k every other word, but is funny is small doses.

Chasing Amy cut with Ben A. - OK, but the reading of the internet site is, again, uninteresting, vulgar without being funny.

Travels to LA - The scenes with George Carlin are shocking without being funny. The scenes with Carrie Fisher are the same. The "Scooby Do" skit is good.

The restaurant with the internet connection - unfunny and unoriginal. Unless you are a particularly stupid 16 year old. Yeh, shocking the straights at a restaurant is sure brilliant comedy, Kevin. Keep those scenes up and you will be working at the your comic book store as a clerk.

The Robbers - The Seann William Scott skit was great. The C**t Commander was unfunny and embarrasing to watch. Again, Kevin Smith seems to run out of gas and fall on obscene absurdities for humor.

Anything scenes with Will Ferrell were great.

The scenes with the ape (minus Will Ferrell) were just plain uninteresting and poorly executed.

The drug dealers in LA - ha, ha. A union for drug dealers? Ha, ha. C'mon Kevin. This MUST have been filler.

The scenes at the studio - all great.

Bottom line: Kevin produced 1/2 a good movie with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. The other half is lousy filler.

Since Clerks, ALL of Kevin Smith's movies have been great 1/2 movies with just plain uninteresting and immature filler. He seems to run out of gas in each movie and then substitute "shock value material."

I hope Jersey Girl is good and Kevin has gotten over his attempts at appealling to 17 year old kids (who aren't terribly bright). But Kevin will never approach the brilliance of "Clerks" and will fade away.
