I had to laugh when I read that post. As someone who has written a book myself (and received a flame on Amazon.com from someone who obviously didn't read the book since it appeared the day the book was released), I am sympathetic to Kevin Smith. His movies are what they are - excellent entertainment. I take his movies with me on overseas trips (nothing like watching his flicks after a long day of Federal Reserve or World Bank meetings).

Do I think everything Kevin Smith writes is funny. Of course not (just like I don't think everything I write is profound or even interesting). But it is always enjoyable and an excellent juxtaposition to the typical movies that we see in the theatres.

I have a special affinity for Kevin's works, having been raised in Rumson (on Lafayette Street behind the real estate brokerage across from Victory Park). I love seeing the locations in Rumson, Red Bank and Leonardo. But more importantly, Kevin is wonderful at describing people (even if it is stoners like Jay and Silent Bob).

I mean, how can anyone not like the opening of "Strikes Back" where Silent Bob's mother puts the hat on backwards to keep the sun out of his eyes?

FrankJ is likely one of those characters that Holden McNeil describes about hiding out is his (her) parent's basement ...

By the way, I will be in Red Bank/Rumson the Thanksgiving weekend in order to see my parents. And taking my son to Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash, of course. Ah, eating a sub at "Elsie's" and having a pizza at Pete and Elda's in Neptune [I even like the Broadway Diner in Red Bank - is that the name?]. Also, Carlos O'Conners Mexican Restaurant is good as well.
