I'm seeing an increase in a rather frustrating trend with DVD releases. First a DVD is put out that is basically a copy of the VHS version, then months later, a "Special Edition" (or Ultimate, or Platinum, or whatever is the cool word of the week) is put out.

Obviously I can't speak for everyone, but I feel like I've been screwed over. I bought Dogma on the day the DVD was released - - paid twenty-some dollars for it, and was happy as a pig in s**t that I had the latest installment of Kevin Smith's Mind. Then, the Special Edition comes out, with tons of great stuff on it, and is selling for (once again) twenty-some dollars. So now, after already having paid for the movie once, I am left with just the movie (which still rocks), while others pay the same and get much more for their money. Had I known from the beginning that this version would be coming out, I would have waited.

I was taught long ago to not criticize without making a suggestion or two, so....

Why not let people know ahead of time that another version will be out? Or put off the DVD release until all is in order and then put JUST the special edition out?

I'm all for the Great American Tradition of "ways to make lots of money" - - but taking advantage of your fans? That sucks.

I'm hoping that I'm proven wrong as to the motivations here....

P.S. Just saw "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back" this weekend - - *great* flick!
