Fuck Kevin Smith. When's your next movie coming out? If that one scene was any indication, any movie you make is going to be a sure-fire cure for the summertime blues.
I think any reference to the Clerks cartoon would have been lost on the mainstream audience. The audience I saw it with didn't even seem to get any of the "Mallrats" references. And that was a global box office phenomenon compared to the cartoon.
