While me friends and I haven't done a feature length flick yet, we're already talking about doing a commentary track for our new 10 minute short, and I know I'd be equally peeved if something like that happened to me. Did you write down anything that you remembered saying once you realized it didn't get recorded? While it takes away the improvization part, it may help you retain some of the better stuff. When I was in college (before the days of DVD, when Laser discs were first surfacing) my roommate and I did our own Mystery Science Theatre recordings, and sometimes we'd watch a movie first and do it for our own knowledge and preperation, and then do it with the camera.
