: in the movie world:

: there's the writer - simple
: director - gotcha
: producer - i can grasp this
: production - i.e. view askew, what's their role in a movie in regards to...
: studio - i.e. miramax, warner, etc. and what's their role?

Depends. Sometimes they develop a story. Other times they buy a story and attach talent
(director, actors, etc.). Then they also distribute the film.

: distributer - do they actually make the physical copies to be sent to theaters? is that why
no biggies chose the PASSION? cause they thought they weren't goin to make their money
back? what is going on?

Yep. They make up the prints and distribute the film for a fee (percentage). That's why the
studio that distributed

: and also, as a writer, do you get a chance at the gross, or is it just purchase price for the
script?

The way I understand it, it depends on your contract. Usually screenwriters get mid sixes
vs. high sixes (just an example). Meaning, you would get say $300,000 for the rights to the
script and then an additional payment should the film go into production. Some more well
known screenwriters can get a chunk of the gross as well. Usually they are also producers.

: oh my head!
