Some of the most learned people I know did a coupla semesters of community college... and some of the dumbest shits I know have a masters in something or other. College is mostly redundant bullshit essay writing, anyway.
Granted, learning styles are different from person to person, some people can only learn in those structured environments with lectures and discussions and tests and exams and all that crap... I think your friend is one of those people and doesn't want to admit that there are other kinds of learners.
College is mostly about being a babystep between being a kid and real life. It's like the minor league version of being an adult. Some people need that, I did, some people don't.
