Not sure what problem you were having with your mouse, but I don't think replacing your hard drive would fix it.
If you replace your hard drive, you need to back up EVERYTHING first. Everything you save, your programs, etc. are on that.
You may be able to reinstall the operating system provided you have a boot disk, but nothing else.
