But even a lot of the old punk band weren't all theat great. Many of them just fell into self repetition, like the sex pistols. The only ones (besides a couple of local bands around my neck of the woods) that i really like are the misfits and the clash.

It's more about down-to-earth things, mainly because - I believe - old school rappers weren't all rich, living in huge mansions surrounded by fifty women all the time. They were real people with everyday problems, and that's what they rapped about.

You have bands like Good Charlotte and what not talking about how they don't understand rich people (ala Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous) and what not when they themselves are rich. Bleh, as much as I dislike most to all rap, I realize that 'old-school' rap was performed by guys who actualy grew up on 'the streets' and lived the life they rapped about. Today's rappers probably came from suburban LA (or the CPT as they seem to refer to it).. It seems as though there's no feeling in it at all compared to the days of old.. They're just cashing in on the popularity of hip-hop.
