Is because compared to today's punk it's real. You have bands like Good Charlotte and what not talking about how they don't understand rich people (ala Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous) and what not when they themselves are rich. Bleh, as much as I dislike most to all rap, I realize that 'old-school' rap was performed by guys who actualy grew up on 'the streets' and lived the life they rapped about. Today's rappers probably came from suburban LA (or the CPT as they seem to refer to it).. It seems as though there's no feeling in it at all compared to the days of old.. They're just cashing in on the popularity of hip-hop.
