The latest made for tv version with the Wings dude does stick closer to the novel, and they had effects in it that couldn't have been done in the original Kubrick film (mainly the topiary animals coming to life).

However, being the tv version is what? four or five hours long? it does make it a little tough to sit through all at once, and it's NOT POSSIBLE to beat Jack Nicholson in the lead.

All things considered? I prefer the Kubrick, but I did enjoy the newer one, as well.
