I could be wrong.

-- Maybe there were a few problems with the characterisation of a few characters but for the most part it was pretty impressive. See, the X-Men films are really ensemble pieces, and I think they did pretty well to establish each of the players as individuals.
Hugh Jackman IS Wolverine, despite being about a foot taller than he is in the comics, and the 'teacher's pet' role that they've given Cyclops works well in playing off against Logan in the films.
