Jersey is the best of both (all) worlds:
It's small, so you can get around,
Best beaches north of North Carolina,
It's 1/2 suburbs of Philly (the cradle of democracy),
and 1/2 the suburbs of NYC (the capital of earth)
Because its between those two, you know you can get good pizza
Lotsa rural area too, with yummy food this time of year (Jersey Corn!)
One of two Sin Cities in USA (Atlantic City)
Cool little beach towns
