I love the new one, don't get me wrong, but at the same time...
I can understand why the wait and anticipation was sort of a let-down. I mean, tons of people heard Jane Says or Been Caught Stealing (especially when Jane Says came out the second time around) rushed out to buy Ritual a decade ago. On the other hand, a lot of "real" fans of Jane's hate the new one, because it is a little sell-out-ish.
I mean, I'm sure you started with Jane's the same way that I did - I heard about "this insanely original band with all kinds of west-coast buzz who are crazy enough to put out a live CD as their debut." You were hooked from that moment on, just as I was. Whatever they put out, I'll buy and love it.
On the other hand, there're people I know who bought Kettle Whistle and tried to play off the fact that they didn't realize 'Had a Dad' wasn't a new track. Strays is as much for that crowd as it is for people who bought 7-inch XXX shit at the Monroeville Expo Mart's Rock-n-roll expos.
