I actually plan on renting it this weekend, and if I enjoy it enough, I'll be listening to the commentary.
I'm sure there are a ton of people though who have already seen it here, so hopefully one of them will reply to you with comments. If they don't, I'll try to come back here and offer some advice.
As for where to start with the comics, I have not a clue. I've never even read one before, they aren't really my cup of tea. (I'll anticipate flames for that comment).
