Notice how he didn't pick Ice Cream, which is good, because he wanted to accent the fact that he didn't pick the Crapper.
See, it wasn't enough that he didn't just choose something over the crapper, he had to make it clear that he would rather choose nothing, than choose the crapper in the face of chocolate ice cream.
This is all driven to higher levels of funny when you consider he used to write for the Crapper, and it wasn't even at the opening, which suggests he coveted his spot before he got it.
So, it's obvious that he's just trying to stick it to the crapper, which he really misses working for.
