when spike went to that demon his request was "make me what i was"... this could mean anything, but based on the episodes leading up to it i assume he wanted to lose the chip and be a bad-ass vampire again... get revenge on buffy, et al. which didn't end up happening.
maybe he didn't want to kill buffy and just wanted to be her boy toy... 100% human. which didn't end up happening. which i doubt he wanted anyway 'cause i can't picture spike working at home depot, y'know? humans have to make money somehow...
what DID end up happening is he became like Angel... a vampire with a soul... he has the blood lust, but knows it's wrong to kill (and a chip to reinforce that).
spike's in pretty good shape, all things considered. Angel was a mess for a very long time after getting his soul.
and since there are now TWO vampires with a soul, where do all the prophecies stand?
