The chip is out. They've been hinting at it all season. The first and only time he's gone apeshit after hitting a person was when he put the shovel through that worm dude's chest, and he paused for a minute, looked to the side, and reacted.
In the one with the chick from Zoe, Duncan, Jack, and Jane, he went off and started to beat the fuck out of the kid from Home Improvement, and NOTHING went wrong with him.
The psychoanalyst vampire told Buffy Spike sired him. Apparently, vampires rise 1-2 days after they're bitten. Maybe 3 or 4, so funeral proceedings can happen.
Spike's been lying about the chip, which was brought to full light when he killed the chunky blonde and reeeally enjoyed it.
Now HOW is this all part of Spike's plan?
In the second season, after Angel went evil, Spike was giving him shit about spending so much time in love and all that. Angel told Spike "the only way to hurt this girl is to love her."
I don't think that was Spike's intention when he said "I want to give that bitch what she deserves," but I think he's realizing it's a lot better than being a coldhearted killer again. From the inside out is more effective and more painful than outside in.
And I dunno about the schizophrenia thing. That looked to be something having to do with the basement, but since no other vampires are down there, I have no clue.
