oint.

: ....I'll be glad to continue this conversation.

: : I know, they could have at least explained that he was "out of town" or something.

: I don't know. Saying he was "out of town" doesn't seem like a good excuse for his absence. If they had put him in pre-transformation, and made him change in a later film (possible 2 or 3), that would have been much more acceptable. But, so long as he makes it into the next one, I'll be okay with the whole Beast issue.

Yeah, I was just giving an example. As long as he's in the next one or two, I'm fine, but they could have at least explained his absence. I mean, he was one of the original X-Men!

: : Most of this stuff didn't bother me. Overall what bugged me was that so much was unneccessarily incorrect, and not true to the comics.

: Well, had they made Iceman an adult, they would have to have made him part of the team. Doing that would add too much to the script, making it too long (and possible making it too boring for people to enjoy). I think they made him a teenager solely to avoid that.

Good point. The odd thing is that it didn't bug me that he wasn't made of ice in the movie.

: : Like this. Not a big deal to me, but would it be that hard to just focus on Wolverine joining? I guess I understand that they were trying to parallel how two people react to this organization, but it wasn't needed.

: I agree here. If they had just told the story of Wolverine joining, that would have been a lot better. Even if Rogue had remained a teenager and Wolverine had just met her in passing, it would have been an acceptable plot.

Yeah. They still could have gone through with the father/daughter/brother/sister/weird love relationship that was goin on betwixt the two, and her running away, but I thought it added nothing but empty time to have the movie focus on both of them as main characters.

: : Didn't bug me at all, he did a great job. I know it's impossible to find someone that looks like Wolverine, but in some scenes the height difference did make a difference.

: When did it make a difference? (I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm just wondering when it was actually noticeable.)

I remember seeing it at the time, but now it escapes me. If I ever get around to watching it again, I'll get back to you.

: : This really did get stuck in my craw. I read an interview with Stan Lee and he really prided himself on not giving his characters religions. He really wanted to make them like everyday people so that kids could relate to any character. I mean, he's already a minority, so minority kids could relate to his feelings of being an outsider, and take sympathy in his anger, but most kids have no understanding of the Holocaust, and it would make him less relatable (is that a word? it is now...) to, say, someone that didn't watch his parents get taken away to a Concentration Camp where they were brutally murdered by a sick degenerate that was bent on world domination.

: You do have a point, and I commend you for it. But I still believe Magneto's being Jewish added something to the character that may or may not have been present in the comic books.

And I understand your point. I guess we agree to disagree.

: : I know. I could think of many better villains, that they could have even got Ray Parks to play. The only thing I liked was that they not only gave him a cooler costume than he had in the comics, but he had one of the coolest outfits of the bunch. And on a side note, I hope the install the little metal thingies in Wolverine's hand by the next movie so it won't hurt so much when he brings out his claws.

: Yes, he did have a cool outfit. And I agree about the metal things on Wolverine's hands. They should definitely be added soon.

Indeed.

: : And totally unnecessary, too. It also would have given him the chance to get some more good lines with his smartass attitude if he knew about Sabretooth and they had no clue.

: It would also have given Sabretooth more of a background in the film, making him a deeper character than what he was.

I know! PLUS, if there was a pre-existing conflict between Sabretooth and Wolverine, they could have not killed him off, and put in a serious arctic fight scene in the next movie. I remember an episode of the cartoon that had him in the Alaska on some kind of journey, staying with Inuits and fighting with Sabretooth. But, alas, my hopes of seeing the Canadian version of that in X2 were dashed when Sabretooth bit the bullet.

: : I guess, but I just hope the costumes in the next one will be a little more distinct. They don't have to be like the ones in the comic, and it's not like we need to tell them apart, but it's just something I liked about the comic. Like in Mystery Men, the Sphynx talking about how you can't be a good super hero without a good outfit or something...

: I guess you and I are two of the very limited number of people who actually liked "Mystery Men". You're right in that they should be more distinct, but it's not a very big thing that they're not.

True, true.

Two things I'll say that I loved about X-Men:

1) Wolverine. I was so happy that the movie focused on him because, although he was barely in my top 5 favorite mutants, in this he was balls to the wall coolness.

2) The relationship between Jean/Cyclops/Wolverine. I was worried they wouldn't introduce this conflict until the sequel. That was one of my favorite things about the X-Men. The love triangle.

By the way, Beast is #1, and Nightcrawler is #2 (before priesthood). Also, I missed out on a few comics and used the cartoon to fill in some gaps...in the comics, were Rogue and Nightcrawler maternal siblings? I remember the cartoon revealing that Mystique was Rogue & Nightcrawlers mom, and I think Sabretooth was Nightcrawlers dad. Is any of this true? If so, I hope it's in X2...damn, why am I so excited for a sequel to a movie that I only thought was luke-warm?
