When you don't know what to do, or how to counter what you fear, it may be best not to act until you have derived a plan, and understand what it driving your actions.
Action is always put at the more honorable of choices, but it may be harder, and in the end, more courageous, to hold off until you have cooled off and are using your head.
In the days after the anthrax scare, I talked with someone who noticed a middle eastern woman was making a lot of copies of addresses in a library, and this observer was distressed -- Should she report it? to who? how?
Well, she reported it to me in conversation, and I told her to ease her mind and think a second. Why would someone of middle eastern descent be copying addresses after the anthrax scare?
Do we want to be that paranoid?
I urged her to be courageous and do nothing, because it was a situation that did not call for anyone to act. Not in America. Not in the America I want to live in.
Of course, if you have a guy who wants to learn how to fly a jet, but not take off or land, and he pays in cash, good heavens people! Get your head out of your ass!
