: I'm a Canadian. Born and raised here, as were my parents and my grandparents and at least one generation before them. I'm not going to get into a debate here as to the nature - or even the existence - of Canadian culture, but I will say that I live here and I like it well enough and that for better or worse, bottom line is, I'm Canadian.

: But I also think that part of being Canadian is being a citizen of the Empire. An outmoded ideal, perhaps, but I honestly subscribe to the idea that being Canadian means being a part of the British Empire, or Commonwealth, or whatever the hell they're calling it these days. The Queen of England is the Queen of Canada, and she's my Queen as well

DID you happen to catch the Daily Show last night? Jon Stewart was talking w/Colin Firth(?) about the Empire, and Canada, and the unique relationship the US & UK have - both being able to treat Canada badly.
Should be rebroadcast today, if you want to catch it.

Always loved Canada - the Tatoine of the Empire (actually more like that ice planet in Empire Strikes Back, but I'm too lazy to look it up). Just off the beaten path, nature rules and the inhabitants adapt.

I honeymooned in Canada - we crossed over at the Peace Garden in North Dakota and drove to Banff, then came back through Waterton-Glacier. So beautiful up there.
