In Reply to: Vincent, I hope you did not misconstrue my comment posted by Captain Quint on August 24, 2001 at 14:08:49:

Like I said, I can take valid criticism- Mr. Brown's Movie Site gave the film some valid criticism, and so have a few of the reviews on this board and film-411 (like Jeff and Neil), but this guy is criticising things that I think are just wrong, and his "against the grain" comment makes me think that those are his true motives.

Or maybe he's pissed that he didn't get an advance copy to review, who knows- whatever the reason, his comments re: the acting and visuals are just wrong, as well as his comments that I was somehow copying Kevin's writing style. I *WISH* I could write dialogue as well as Kevin can, but I'm smart enough to know that you can't force that or copy it without it sounding absolutely contrived. A lot of the dialogue in A BETTER PLACE was worked out with the actors during rehearsals using my written dialogue as a "guide" only.

: When I wrote "I shall let the review speak for itself," I did not mean it as an endorsement of his views. As you mention, the reviewer's take on the film is not in line with the majority of reviews I have read, which generally have been positive. I only said that because (1) I have not yet seen ABP; and (2) as mentioned, the reviews of ABP have been positive.
: Eagerly awaiting my copy of ABP from the Stash,
: Marc
