***SPOILERS ahead***

I'd agree with your review. The plot just didn't click for me and the film was up and down. There were some VERY funny parts (hilarious, even), but the whole film didn't grab me like Kevin's other work.

I think part of the problem was it seemed too cartoony. I think Kevin's other films are all rooted in some sort of reality, but this one wasn't. Even Mallrats was pretty believable (except for Bob's "Jedi" powers) and Dogma was believable because it set up the rules beforehand... there was an explanation for everything. J&SBSB had some sequences that I just found dumb due to the cartoony nature (the girls jumping through the lasers, the bong saber duel (yeah those would be real), Will Ferrel's fall, some cameos that felt forced (Brodie, mainly), breaking the "fourth wall" and several other jokes just took us too far out of the movie's reality).

I'd have to give it only 2 of 4 stars, my least favorite of all the View Askewniverse films. Sorry, Kev, I appreciate the effort, it just didn't work for me.

Maybe I just hyped myself up too much... I had been treating this film like my "Episode I" all summer (I was checking newsaskew.com every day, etc). I'm going to check out the flick again today, though, to see if maybe I just set my expectations too high. Hopefully, the film will grow on me...

- Mike.
