Kevin Smith
Executive Producer

In the few years since his entry into the indie film community, Kevin Smith has seen it all - from the surprise critical and commercial success he received for his debut film CLERKS, to the disappointing critical and commercial drubbing he took on his second outing MALLRATS. Along the way, he has collected an award at the career-making Sundance Film Festival and two at the prestigious, and very French, Cannes Film Festival; collaborated with indie film guru John Pierson on his book Spike, Mike, Slackers, and Dykes, a chronicle of the last ten years in the world of low/no budget film.

With their success, Smith and his partner, Scott Mosier, were able to help several local aspiring filmmakers get their films made. Both Smith and Mosier executive-produced VULGAR, one of four micro-budget features produced through View Askew Productions.

Smith released his third film, CHASING AMY, to critical acclaim, winning the Independent Spirit Award for Best Original Screenplay and published the oft-requested screenplays for CLERKS, CHASING AMY, and DOGMA. Additions to his writing credits include his own comic titles Jay & Silent Bob's Double Feature and Clerks the Comic Book. He penned a successful run of Daredevil for Marvel Comics and is currently hard at work on Green Arrow for DC.

Smith also co-executive produced, with Mosier, the Academy Award winning film GOOD WILL HUNTING. Coming full circle, Smith has ventured back into retail, this time as the owner of a comic book store in Red Bank, New Jersey - Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash.

Smith was once again in attendance at the 52nd annual Cannes Film Festival with his feature film DOGMA starring Linda Fiorentino, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, which opened nationally in November 1999. A CLERKS animated TV series brought to Smith a new experience in the entertainment industry, and two upcoming movie projects - the final Askewniverse film and an adaptation of Gregory McDonald's FLETCH WON - will continue to keep Smith's writing and directing talents in the spotlight.

In May 2000, Smith was invited to deliver the commencement speech at Illinois Wesleyan University and was presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.

He also spends lots of time at the company's web-site (www.viewaskew.com) jawing with the cult-like fan-base. Smith married in 1999, and he and wife Jennifer celebrated the birth of their daughter, Harley Quinn, on June 26, 1999.
