: I have a question. I'm thinking of filming an amateur no-budget feature, and I can't decide if I want to film it in super8 or 16mm.

My advice would be to shoot in 16mm, so you won't have to mess with blow-up
and special post costs when you assemble and make a print.

: Also: perhaps renting beats buying? I can't really decide which is better, although I would like to own a camera.

Your budget's going to dictate your options, of course. But you could pick
up a cheap 16mm camera. Or you could rent a better quality model. Talk
with your local equipment rental company on their prices (most will work
with you if you're an indie or if you let one of their guys DP it). You
could also look in various indie film mags for cameras, etc. Good Luck.

Always,
Michael Raben
