: Five Favorite Auteurs in Cinema (this means all time, in any country: how different is this list if you don't count horror?)

David Lean
Stanley Kubrick
Dario Argento
David Lynch
Terrence Mallick

: Five Directors working today who you look forward to for their next project:

Dario Argento
David Lynch
Peter Weir
Terrence Mallick
Martin Scorsese

: Film Criticism, do we need it? (I strongly believe so, but others on this board don't):

Depends on the type of "cricitism". Well-written criticism is always useful, but a lot of what passes for "critisicm" is pure dreck.

: Do you think that the press and the masses tend to say horror films are "thrillers" once they reach critical acclaim?

Not sure if it's the critics or the filmmakers themselves who are so quick to disavow the "horror" label, but yeah, it seems to have a sort of stigma attached and that's a shame, especially when so many "respected" filmmakers count horror films and filmmakers (i.e., Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese) among their major influences.
