Because it explains so much of how the Matrix idea must've came together.
It's all about... a guy who realizes that his society, his world... his body... is a lie, that he's really something amazing and his struggle to... like... claim his true identity against all the slings and arrows of the normal-yet-false world.
I mean, if that's where his bliss is, I say mazeltov but...
Its just really enlightening to the whole situation.
Wasn't there a minor female character named Switch in there somewhere, ala Blake Edwards' Ellen Barkin with the downer ending after ninety-or-so minutes of rather straight-up comedy?
I wonder if a journalist has ever asked him/her about that all, point blank in an interview. Especially when the only other film in his pocket is a lesbian bondage love story...
