: I'm writing a paper about François Truffaut and I was wondering if Kevin was influenced by him at all in the way that the characters in the movies know each other and seem to all live in the same world. This is also the case in Truffaut's Antoine Doinel series. I'm looking for more directors that were influenced by any of his films, so if anyone has some info. let me know. And if Kevin himself or anyone else can give me some info. on the first part, let me know that too.

: Thanks,

: Luke

I don't think the "all the characters know each other" thing is enough to say that Kevin was influenced by him. I think it's more of a case of Kevin making Clerks, throwing in some references next time for fun, and then snowballing from there. Although I have only seen one part of the Antoine Doinel series, it seems a lot more conscious of the running characters and themes than Kevin, who seemed to sort of accidentally fall into the continuing characters and stories... until Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, of course.
