: : Didn't he get the same marketing firm as the folks who did Big Fat Greek Wedding? Or something? $315 in 5 weeks. Yipes.
: You don't need a marketing firm when you're direct-mailing every church in the world. That shit is SOLID GOLD.
Again, I could be wrong, but I think that *IS* the work of the marketing firm. Apparently they did a similar style campaign to the Greek community, though I have no idea how that literally works.
: I still REALLY want one of those "nail" necklaces they're shilling. So tacky, yet so wonderful.
I have yet to see what this exactly is, though I've heard it talked about before...it could be that its something I have seen for years and didn't know was "hot" again. I've seen many a necklace made of nails over the years. In fact, its a popular "do it yourself" craft for pre-teens in church functions. (I recall making them with missionary kids in thailand over a year ago)
: : Whats with the huge movies always being ones where we already knows how it ends?
: Hmmm, well, I guess you could say it's a happy ending at least.
Perfectly set up for a sequal, no doubt.
: I haven't seen THE PASSION, but I'm into the cult of life, not death. I'll try to watch it eventually, but if I'm to subject myself to a brutally violent movie (SO not my thing) I at least want to be in the comfort of my own home.
It didn't make me squirm any more than resevoir dogs.
: The interesting thing about THE PASSION to me, or passion plays in general, is that someone actually believes that the part of Christ's story that most folks don't fully understand is the violent part. I think modern humanity understands violence quite well; we've just got to turn on the news. There's nothing unique about a man being killed. A man being peaceful in the face of utter brutality -- a man leading his people towards the path of righteousness -- a man who embraces the outcasts of society -- these are the unusual parts of the story.
All agreed. I said that a week before it came out. Its all very mis-guided. It will be nice when it goes away. Hey, you may know about this... allow me to pretend to be all spiritualish for a second.
I once theorized that society is going through a massive shift. It has been said that the yin-yang is also a symbol of our ultimate reality. Cosntantly in motion. A dark slice, with a small light spot, and a light slice with a small dark spot. Light, dark. Mother, Father. Cold, hot. etc etc...
It has been said that in the ancient times of humanity we as humans were very much into the "mother religion". Mother nature, kind, warm, loving, earthy. But as all things are changing, there was a shift, a sort of "you have been bad, wait until your father comes home, type attitude." Christianity or at the very least, monotheism was the manifistation of that shift, from the mother to the father religion. Of course a spot of light still exists, but its the extreme minority.
Now we also cannot ignore the tiny line that seperates these two "aspects" of "reality" or what have you. These "transitions" that clearly divide the two aspects of this yin-yang.
It has been said that before one turns into the other, mother to father, light to dark, etc, that a stinging flash of EXTREME light or dark (whatever is leaving) must occur first. Whether this represents the tail of the yin or the body of the yin, I don't know, or maybe its represented by that little dividing black line that would be razor sharp.
In any case, its almost like this movie is part of this huuuge last flare up of the father religion. A giant "whipcrack" or what-have you, before society at large returns to the mother. Of course a small section of the father will always exist, but with the moral christian right suddenly surging again, even while an obvious shift to a more liberal and or liberated society is taking place, well, its interesting to say the least.
Thoughts on this? Or pure BS?
