: Anyone go last night? What were the crowds (if any) like? Percentage of theater empty/full?
: Crowd reaction?
Las Vegas - Saw the film around 2pm on Friday; theatre was about 60% full, with senior citizens outnumbering other folks about 5 to 1. Most of the senior citizens were husband/wife.
Most of the drug and sex jokes, as well as the View Askewniverse cameos, were lost on the geriatric crowd, and most seemed genuinely horrified by Maya (Liv Tyler) - their disgusted mutters and grumbles peaked with the "mercy jump" bit.
That's not to say they weren't entertained - no one walked out, and they did laugh and discuss bits openly throughout (dammit). Here's the discussion the old husband and wife sitting next to me had after the baby is born and Jennifer Lopez's head rolls down:
Old Man: "She's dead."
Old Woman: "Huh?"
Old Man: "She's dead."
Old Woman: "How?"
Old Man: "I don't know. Heart attack I'd say."
Yeah. Anyway, the joke the got the biggest laugh from non-geriatrics was "Wipe it front to back" all the way through "Is that blow on..."; The geriatrics had the biggest laugh during the school play at the end. Most women of all ages were in tears and wiping their eyes at the point in Affleck's speech to the baby where he really starts sobbing.
All in all very well received. Congrats Kevin, hope to see more work like this in the future.
