I saw “JG” at the 7:30pm show on Friday. The theater parking lot was half full when I got there so I was a bit worried. But my worries were lifted when I saw that the theater was about 90% full. There were a lot of adults and a few scattered couples from what I could see. When the new View Askew logo came up I expected a Lucas-like applause from any Askewniverse member but didn’t hear anything but laughter when Silent Bob was choked and Jay took off running.

Overall, the reactions I saw and heard were fantastic. During the kids scene at the beginning the crowd was howling with laughter. They totally loved Carlin. There was a couple sitting close to me and I heard them kissing during some of the sweeter moments in the film. The best reaction of the night was when Ollie and Gertie are screaming at each other. You could actually feel the tension slamming into the crowd when Ollie called Gertie a little shit. It was amazing. If that’s what you were going for, you succeeded. The tribute to your pops at the end also garnered a lot of “awws” from the crowd.

My thoughts on the film: I really enjoyed it. Carlin especially. He was perfect for that part and his serious scenes were excellent. The ladies in the film were great including your wife and kiddo. Raquel gave a great performance for a kid and Liv was very sweet and likeable. I’m not a fan of hers but she won me over. I wasn’t a big fan of Jennifer Lopez’s part but I won’t go into that. You’ve probably heard that enough.

It was good to see Jason Lee going “Reynolds Style” for his cameo. I was laughing very hard throughout his scene just looking at him. I hope you hit a homerun with “Green Hornet” and get Mr. Lee for Fletch. Good ole Affleck really showed me some good stuff. I’ve liked him in all of your films but his other films drive me crazy because he is talented with the right writer. Let’s hope he sticks to material like “JG” and doesn’t do “Pearl Harbor 2.” The audio wasn’t that great in the theater so I missed a lot of Root and Starr’s banter but I’ll eventually see the movie again.

I’ve waited for what seemed like forever for this film and I wasn’t disappointed. Congratulations for stepping outside your medium and taking a shot in the dark. You deserve all of the kudos you’re receiving. And to those who are saying negative things, well, fuck them. Fuck them up their stupid asses.

Daniel
