Saw it yesterday afternoon at the AMC Empire 25, after ditching an auditorium full of librarians down the street. Theater was more than 2/3 full for the 3:00 p.m. show, and the crowd was pretty diverse - more older folks than I ever would have expected. Lots of Hispanics/Latinos whatever they want to be called - many of them clearly there to see Jennifer Lopez. Plenty of people got the Sweeney Todd stuff, but that might have been because it was a theater right around Broadway. The crowd was generous with the laughs and I heard several people commenting on the movie as I left the theater - "so sweet," "so sad," etc.

I thought it was a great film. Great performances by everyone. As young Gertie, Raquel's smile and eyes lit up the screen repeatedly. As the geeky looking video store clerk, Liv Tyler is a million miles from Middle Earth and my god, I'd drop my membership in Columbia House in a heartbeat if Blockbuster girls were in her league. George Carlin was fantastic as that gruff old bastard with a heart and Affleck made me misty. I stuck around and saw a pretty long list of thank yous at the end of the credits (as well as a plug for The Stash). So far, I haven't seen the movie selling on the street yet, either.
