I suppose because he has the finesse and demeanor to carry it off. And the sexy. Green Hornet = Sexy! But Clooney wouldn't be interested, I'm sure, due to the Batman fiasco. (I own Batman & Robin btw, and love the movie. Didn't click with many fans or critics, though.)
And yes, Jake is young enough to portray Britt Reid from the beginning. George, who is my own same age, is just too old at this point for a younger story. But Clooney's still This Lady's Dream Man.
