A lot of the subtle(sp??) jokes are lost on younger people because they have an attention span of a gnat. I have watched it with my 15 yr old cousing and he laughs if Bart moons someone or does something stupid but is totally lost when Homer says "Marge I will not lie to you" then puts his head down and doesnt say a word. A lot of it has to do with experience, because the Simpsons is really targeted to an experienced smart audience.
