I agree that Billy may be controlling but I don't blame him. I mean he did pretty much write 100% of "Siamese Dream" by himself (as well as the Pumpkins' other stuff). He deserves to have control on things.
But even if it was because of Billy that James left, Billy still could have continued under the Smashing Pumpkins name. He relinquished control when he let the band 'die'.
