DVD+R / DVD-R computer help needed!

Hi. Sorry to be a dumbass but what is the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R? Will both work on any machine but just one is better quality?
On my DVD rewriter it says:

DVD dual
RW/R
DVD+ReWritable
compact disc ReWritable
Ultra Speed

Any help asap is much apprieciated!
