: I just had a heated discussion with my freind over education and College. I'd like to hear the boards oppinion. I was thinking of Good Will Hunting and how that guy was a genius and yet never went to college. My freind says that that dosen't happen in real life and that you can't learn everything from college in a library.

-Well, there are people who don't even need the library. In high school, I had a friend, Lonnie, who just fucking KNEW calculus, just knew it. He had a terrible home life that led to other problems, like not being able to stay awake in class, and having any ambition stripped from you. But, wake him up, and he would finish any problem before anybody else in the class. He was the most naturally gifted mathmatics wiz I have ever been around. If he had gone to college, I would imagine he would be at like NASA or something.

-Dave Thomas, founder of Wendy's was a business genious, and he didn't even graduate high school.

I, however am more optomistic and think all you pay for at the college is for the service of the teachers and staff and in a way all you are really paying for is proof that you know what you know...

-This is also true.

So do you think education is free or does it cost money to learn?

-You guys are both right.
