Sure, Ashton was a star in TEEN PEOPLE before he started dating Demi, but that whole scandal launched him into the media with full force.
He's got a zillion movies and projects lined up; all Demi's done is CHARLIE'S ANGELS, which she did before hooking up with Ashton.
On a side note, I do want to say I don't think either one of them went into a relationship just because they thought it would advance their careers. You might make out with someone just for attention (I'm lookin' at you, Colin and Britney), but you wouldn't date them for eight months or whatever.
