The book is a fair effort from Dave Barry

It is very reminiscent of the novels by his Miami Herald collegue Carl Hiaasen. When I lived in Miami about 15-17 years ago, it was the heyday of the Herald and Dave Berry -- Tropic Magazine (the Herald's sunday mag at the time) was intelligent, funny, and insightful. Barry and editor Gene Weingarten (late of the Washington Post) were the cerebral centerpieces of the mag.

Then he had to go and make a TV based on his life...

I'd recommend some Hiaasen (Skin Tight is good) in addition to Barry's Big Trouble (which pales in comparison, in my humble opinion)
