the lighter was used prominently in dogma, and was also seen in the diner scene in J&SBSB.
i believe "nails" was created so as to avoid liscensing fees.
in clerks, you'll notice none of the quick stop's customers ask for marlboro... they only ask for "a pack of cigarettes".
