Miramax is responsible for distributing three of my top five favorite films.
*1. Amélie
*2. Good Willl Hunting
3. Saving Private Ryan
4. Fight Club
*5. Chasing Amy
And I wouldn't say any one of those films are "sell-out" films. French films? Kevin Smith movies not titled Mallrats? That movie with Mork from Ork? Hardly.
In fact, add another to the list: Dirty Pretty Things. That's one of my top two movies of the past year, and they distributed that as well.
If I were to complain about anything Miramax does, it'd be it's generally poor handling of U.S. distribution of foreign language films, particularly asian films (though the lesser known european films are also ignored), but Miramax is hardly alone in that fault. Other than that, I applaud Miramax. I'm not always crazy about their current releases, but they've brought us so much great, really memorable stuff.
