Granted, they're likely to be more intelligent than Bob, the gas station attendant. But who's to say that MBAs and law grads and so forth aren't just as intelligent? Holding a PhD or MD is as much about personality and career interest and other factors as it is about intelligence. And obviously, personality and career interest could definitely have their own correlations to political affiliations.
